Namun anehnya setelah itu, kabar yang menyangkut tentang kain kafan Gusdur yang masih utuh seperti ditutupi oleh pihak pondok pesantren dan keluarga.
Dan menurut kabar yang beredar, pada saat itu hal tersebut dilakukan untuk menghindari jumlah penziarah yang membludak ke makam negarawan sekaligus ulama tersebut, apalagi kondisi makam memang sedang mengalami kerusakan akibat hujan deras.
